Oprah Winfrey's Property in Maui: Details, Photos, History

While the above photo isn't of her exact condo, it gives you a peek inside a unit at a similar price point. While living here at 2660 Peachtree Road, she enjoyed tons of outdoor space thanks to the unit's wraparound patios, the ability to walk to shops and restaurants, and the most modern appliances available. Surprisingly, though, it doesn't seem like other celebrities were clamoring to live here, as we don't know of any other A-listers who bought a home in the building except for one former senator.

These are the California cities where $150,000 still buys you a home. Could you live here?

Located on the 36th floor of the Place 57 tower, the home also features 2,500 square feet of living space, wood floors, a dramatic arched ceiling, and the most modern kitchen on the market. Instead, Oprah splurged on an island home with much greener scenery. She bought a mansion on Orcas Island, which is off the coast of Washington and is filled with tons of parks, water views, and evergreens. According to Dirt, in 2018, Oprah picked up what's known as the Madroneagle Estate for nearly $8.5 million, taking its 43 acres and 3,000 square feet of water frontage along with it. The estate dates back 15 years and includes four bedrooms throughout its colossal 7,300 square feet, but this rustic escape has many more features than just bedrooms.

New York City’s lost opera houses are having their fifteen minutes of fame, thanks to the HBO show, The Gilded Age, which brought their dramatic histories to life in the most recent season. We dug into these former opera houses in a new extended episode of the Untapped New York podcast which weaves in clips from The Gilded Age, which were kindly provided to us by HBO. You’ll hear a conversation between Untapped New York founder Michelle Young and Justin Rivers, who recently gave a talk on this subject for our Insiders, along with excerpts from his talk. It’s kind of like The Ted Radio Hour, but for obscure New York City history. Maui Now reported that Winfrey purchased a 3-acre property that was adjacent to her other properties in Kula, adding to her almost 100 acres at the time. But her biggest real-estate investments in terms of acreage have been in Hawaii.

Exploring Oprah Winfrey’s Luxurious Montecito Estate

When it fell, the whole space changed for her; now she wants her ashes sprinkled in her house on Maui, another place where she keenly feels her connection to the earth and the stars. Today, Oprah grounds her home in whatever makes her feel comfortable. She doesn’t like a lot of bright things bringing attention to themselves. She wants to feel soothed, and she wants her guests to feel the same way.

Oprah Winfrey House: Shocking Photos of Her Many Mansions

She had plans to build a megamansion on the property, but ran into a bit of a legal issue when a retired nuclear physicist living in the area sued her for trail access rights. “I don’t care if Oprah is a neighbor, but if she is going to cut off access to trails, I don’t find that acceptable,” the physicist told the Denver Post. The lawsuit was ultimately dropped, and it is unclear whether or not Winfrey went through with constructing her proposed megamansion. While the exact current value of Oprah’s Montecito mansion is not publicly disclosed, it’s known that she purchased the property for $50 million in 2001.

The neo-Georgian-style mansion includes a 12-tree grove called "the Apostles" and a fountain "the size of a lake that shoots water to the heavens," according to Vogue. Chicago wasn't the only place where Oprah once had a five-star condo. Per Dirt, Oprah dropped just $660,000 on a 1,800-square-foot condo in Florida in 1996. Twelve years later, she saw quite an increase in value when she listed it for a little more than $2 million. Oprah's two-bedroom Florida condo was on the ever-exclusive Fisher Island, a 216-acre haven for the rich and famous that's only accessible by sea or air. And although it's secluded, it has plenty of amenities for its A-list residents to enjoy.

As The Times first reported in November, and as Fisher himself confirmed as recently as last month, he is seeking to sell a share of ownership to outside investors for $500 million. He would then use the proceeds to help pay for the new Las Vegas ballpark. Uncertainty around the public funding could spook potential investors. However, the referendum becomes a little more of a long shot with each passing day. The A’s and their allies have objected to the proposed language of the referendum petition, and the matter remains unresolved after seven months in the Nevada courts.

Oprah's first purchase of land in Hawaii was 100 acres in Kula, part of Maui's upcountry, in 2003.

She reportedly bought the 8,700-square-foot residence to use as a base while overseeing the construction of a new home on the land she acquired in 2014. Winfrey stepped up her real estate game in 1995 when she purchased a penthouse condo on the exclusive Fisher Island for an undisclosed amount. Located off the coast of Miami, the 216-acre, man-made island is home to many celebrities. Winfrey’s abode boasted four bedrooms and six bathrooms across 6,170 square feet. Not to mention, it featured 20-foot ceilings and an oceanfront terrace.

Kid Cudi Purchases $7.7 Million Suburban Mansion

Oprah's $8 million condo wasn't the star's only Illinois residence. She also owned a surprisingly modest Colonial-style abode in Elmwood Park, a suburb of Chicago. According to CBS News, Oprah picked up the 2,200 square foot home a little over two decades ago for just $300,000. The house was so mysterious that its neighbors had no idea that Oprah's name was on the deed, although other residents, presumably renters, moved out before Oprah listed the home for sale in 2016. But don't worry, the actual living space of this home is pretty amazing, too. Once Oprah's show began running — which continued to do so for 25 seasons — she set her sights on many other businesses that contributed to the wealth she enjoys today.

On Friday, the media mogul was spotted delivering supplies including cots, pillows and toiletries to a shelter in Wailuku. "It's almost like buildings have been specifically targeted with pinpoint accuracy..." they wrote. She bought the Kula land — which included these two buildings, pictured — at the recommendation of her property manager (and former personal trainer) Bob Greene. We haven’t confirmed it ourselves just yet but our local sources, one of which is a well-placed real estate agent, has confirmed those rumors and says other big purchases by Oprah are on the way. It had other luxe features, too, like three separate walk-in closets — perfect for this television star's presumably huge wardrobe — a hot tub, and two fireplaces to warm up the whole space on chilly New York City nights.

The community respects each other’s privacy, making it an ideal place for celebrities to live without the constant media glare. After what was meant to be a small project turned into a full-blown renovation, the Maui home incorporates loads of personal and real touches that truly represent Oprah’s personality. With large mansions dotted around the rest of the U.S, the ranch in Maui gives Oprah a smaller, more relaxed and cozy place to reside. In October 2019, Oprah expanded again when she bought actor Jeff Bridges’ estate, which, you guessed it, neighbors her 2016 addition.

The official account of the governor of Hawaii reposted her message on X, writing, "A big mahalo to @Oprah for giving @mauicounty access to your private road for use to assist in the #Mauifire." Maui experienced "a very active fire season" in 2019, Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro told The Maui News in December that year. Throughout the year, 25,000 acres burned, according to The Maui News, compared to the 3,900 burned acres in 2018. Maui council member Yuki Lei Sugimura told local outlet KITV4 in March 2023 that she appreciated what Winfrey was doing with the land, calling agricultural land "treasured," and also praised Winfrey for hiring local residents.

Oprah offloaded two of her Montecito properties in 2021 and 2023. The ranch-style home was purchased by Winfrey in 2007 for $7 million and boasts 3,376 square feet of living space as well as 4 bedrooms and 5.6 acres of land. Winfrey began to set down roots for what is now known as the Promised Land, her sprawling home in Montecito, in 2001. In the decades following, Winfrey continued to snap up nearby properties to expand her holdings in Montecito; she still calls this sprawling mansion her main home base. It shouldn't be surprising to find out that Oprah Winfrey's homes have some pretty cool features, but it might be a little unexpected to know that she has her very own wine mine. It has lush acreage filled with romantic touches like roses and fountains, six bedrooms, two separate private theaters, a gourmet kitchen, a massive walk-in closet, and a library.

The second parcel was purchased by Seed Money LLC of Telluride, CO for $1,125,000. After a bit of digging, we noticed that the administrator of Madrona Tree LLC is the same as that on file for Seed Money. Watch full episodes and live stream OWN whenever and wherever you want.
